Fantastic Mr Fox Writing Competition Winners
We are absolutely delighted to announce the winners of our Fantastic Mr Fox Writing Competition. We have received so many wonderful stories over the past two months and we have enjoyed reading every single entry. Unfortunately, as with all competitions, we could only choose three of those wonderful stories as winners. It was a tough job to decide which three we would select – because the level of story telling skills we saw in all the entries was extremely high. Not only did we see huge amounts of imagination, we saw talents in story construction, characterization, plot development, narration and conversation. The fact that these stories were written by children as young as eight, really was extraordinary. So, thank you again, all of you for your hard work and dedication. And now, on to the winners…
First place goes to ‘The Great Escape’ by Tamara Khalil Khoury.
Judges comments: ‘This is really excellent. It is a beautiful take that will captivate children and adults alike. A universal tale of love, family and responsibility which also touches sensitively upon issues such as the global refugee crisis and captures the sense of wonder and hope that is represented by Dubai. Very good dialogue. Very well paced and with a fantastic epiphany moment at the end. This young writer is very talented.’
Second place goes to ‘Mr Fox in the Desert’ by Jason Jude Woodward.
Judge’s comments: Very creative and incentive story which explores Mr Fox in the UAE in a unique way. It is very well written both in use of language and in the overall conception, pace and conclusion of the story. Very very impressive for an eight year old’
Third place goes to ‘A story of trust, belief and friendship’ by Tirumala Tejas.
Judges comments: ‘This reads like a thriller or action movie and is a fun and entertaining take on the original.’
Congratulations to all our winners – and thank you so much to everyone who entered and made the competition such a success. We had a really tough time deciding on the winning entries because the standard was so high! The award ceremony will take place on Sunday May 7th at the British Council DUBAI TEACHING CENTRE, Tariq Bin Ziyad Street, Near Rashid Hospital, Dubai
