The Play That Goes Wrong in Dubai
The Play That Goes Wrong, by Mischief Theatre, was performed in Dubai in June 2014. This article by Time Out journalist Caroline McEneaney was run in both Time Out Abu Dhabi and Time Out Dubai in May 2014. As stated, the lead role in The Play That Goes Wrong is Chris, the incompetent and arrogant head of a fictional drama company that attempts to put on a 1920’s murder mystery play, with dramatically awful results.
As sets collapse, actors miss their cues and understudies wrestle with leading ladies and quite a lot of white spirit is consumed on stage instead of water.
The production, which met with huge success and acclaim when it debuted at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012, has now been awarded five stars by several major theatrical critics. Not only that, but it’s international tour, which sees it make a stop in Dubai, at the beautiful Madinat Theatre, will also be making waves in London’s famous West End.
Daily Mail writer Quentin Letts called it hysterically funny, whilst veteran actress Joanna Lumley praised it’s writing comic genius.
